A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM THE STATE EXAMINER
REGARDING HURRICANE KATRINA AND HURRICANE RITA

Each of us who works in the state office of the Louisiana Fire and Police Civil Service wishes to express our deepest concern to our friends impacted by the terrible devastation of Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita. Early estimates are that we have approximately 40 departments dramatically impacted by these storms, and an unknown number of others whose resources are stretched to capacity from assisting in the relief effort and from accommodating the overnight increase in local area populations.

Many pending examinations in the affected areas will need to be cancelled, and it will simply be impossible for civil service boards to meet to conduct business. In addition, some grades are ready to be mailed, but there is sadly no place to which we might mail them. Emergency, storm related messages pertinent to the Louisiana Fire and Police Civil Service system will be posted to this website on a regular basis. Our office contact numbers are posted on the website (mine is 225-925-4416), and my home number is 225-924-2919. Deputy State Examiner Bob Lawrence may be contacted at 225-925-7097 (office) or 225-752-9014 (home). If any of the displaced fire and police personnel or their families need any type of assistance in the Baton Rouge area, please get in touch with us and let us see what we can do to help. I encourage you to call me at home if you need help and the office is closed. Please know that our hearts and prayers go with you.

Sincerely,

Melinda B. Livingston
State Examiner
